Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: you are listening to the weekly podcast from renewal Chapel a unique Community connecting people with God loving them just as Jesus loved and equipping them to serve one another to learn more about renewal Chapel including our gathering times and locations visit us online at renewal chapel.com in Jesus name amen we’ve talked about breakthrough for the last several weeks and what we’ve begun to find out after a while is that this breakthrough that we have is a series of little tiny breakthroughs that don’t seem like breakthroughs at the time yet when we look back over months and years of our life we can look back and see how God has made significant and vast changes not only in the way we think and the way we feel but in the way we live the choices we make the words we speak the actions that we have with our lives it’s utterly amazing to see and it happens slowly slowly slowly and most of us believe that the Breakthrough is some kind of massive Epiphany where everything changes in a moment’s notice and the reality is we’re finding that that’s just not true as Paul writes the passage of scripture that we’re going to be teaching this morning he’s speaking as a pastor to his congregation as a father to his children there is a man who I respect tremendously his name is Brennan Manning and he’s with the Lord now he passed away in 2012 13 somewhere like that Brennan was um marine and a Catholic priest and former Catholic priest he left the priesthood married was an alcoholic divorced and remained an alcoholic and struggled with alcoholism until he finally died of wet brain because he drank so much for so many decades of his life Brennan had a saying and that saying is you hear me say this a lot and that saying is this loves God loves us as we are not as we should be because none of us are what we should be God loves us as we are not as we should be because none of us are what we should be and Brenan is absolutely correct spoton because if God didn’t love us as we were in Romans 5 where Paul says that he demonstrates his love for us in this in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us he didn’t come to Jeremiah and say I tell you about Jeremiah you clean up your act quit this this this this and this and start this this this this and this and I’ll die for you no he said I’m going to show you I’m going to show Jeremiah and everyone what my love really is I’m going to love you as you are and I’m going to die for you but I think Brennan didn’t go far enough you see I do believe that every Godly any father good father doesn’t want his children to stay the same every good father wants his children to grow I tell Terry on a regular basis I miss the the girls being the girls um let’s see tomorrow our oldest turns 40 ouch not just for her but for us she’s going into middle age well we’ve got a daughter in middle age and I would love to be back not so that I could be younger but so the girls could be the girls again and see them running through the house to see them doing the things that they did when they were little but the bottom line is I really don’t want that it would be nice to have for a short while but number one I don’t have the energy now I can’t keep up with those kids all I have to do is have all of our grandkids over at the house for about 15 minutes and I realize I can’t do this anymore Brennan said God loves us as we are not as we should be because there ain’t none of us what we should be and that’s right we need to take it a step farther God loves us as we are not as we should be so that we can become all that we were meant to be and created to be in Christ because there must be growth there must be growth in stature there must be growth emotionally away from either victimhood or narcissism because we can’t stay eternally victims when we have a god like we’ve got and we sure as heck can’t stay eternally narcissistic when we have a god like we have but our world tells us stay the victim keep on focusing on yourself stay the victim keep on focusing on yourself I want you to read with on the screen with me through Colossians chap 3 veres 1-1 17 therefore if you have been raised up with Christ keep seeking the things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God set your mind on things above not on things that are on the earth for you have died and your life is hidden with God in Christ when Christ who is our life is revealed then you also will be revealed with him in glory therefore consider the members of your Earthly body as dead to immorality impurity passion evil desire and greed which amounts to idolatry for it is because of these things the wrath of God will come upon the sons of Disobedience and in them you also once walked when you were living in them but now you also put them aside anger wrath malice slander and abusive speech from your mouth do not lie to one another since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices and have put on the new self which is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the one who created him a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew circumcised or uncircumcised Barbarian schian slave or free man but Christ is all and in all so as those who have been chosen of God holy and beloved put on a heart of compassion kindness humility gentleness and patience bearing with one another and forgiving each other Whoever has a complaint against anyone just as the Lord forgave you so you also should forgive beyond all things put on love which is the perfect Bond of unity Let the Peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful let the word of Christ richly dwell within you with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God whatever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks through him to God the father right smack in the center of this section in verse 11 is a statement at the end of verse 11 and it says in that statement but Christ is all and in all and that is the Hub around which verses 5 through 17 rotate it is the Hub it is another one of those structures that I told you about several weeks ago called a chastic structure and I’m not going to go into what that means anymore but I’m going to just get straight into what this is all about in verses 1 to 4 Paul makes it clear clear to us he tells us if you have been raised up with Christ and seated at the right hand of God then set your mind set keep seeking and set your mind if you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God then your life is going to be different if Christ is your life then things are going to be different and then right smack into verse 11 he hits that idea again Christ is all and in all but in verse five he starts teaching some things that are very important he says first of all therefore therefore is there for a reason and it reminds us of what he’s just said if you have died and in the next verse he says in verse 5 he says consider the members of your Earthly body as dead now what are my members this is a member this is a member this is a member this is a member these here are members my brain is a member my feet are members my legs are members consider my members dead if you have died in verse three for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ and God there are certain things as a believer to which I have died and I am no longer alive to those things and when I continue digging into those old things from my past I don’t grow I struggle and what I end up doing is I end up becoming an idolator as he says later on and we’ll take a look at that I set up Idols in my life that take the place of God and the first one he hits that I’m supposed to be dead to is something that speaks powerfully to our culture today the first one that he speaks in verse five is that we are our bodies Our members are to be dead to immorality immorality is sex outside of marriage it’s called fornication this is an act that as a believer in Christ one who has been who has died to my old self and has been resurrected to newness of Life In Christ this is something that if I run back to it I set it up as an idol in my life and it takes me away from growing in Grace and knowledge of my Lord Jesus Christ it does not draw me to him those of you who have been at Life House have regularly heard heard Rocky or Helen talk about two things that will become God’s in your life if you’re not careful after you leave the initial days of sobriety one is money and the other is sex they will rule your life Jesus said or the Bible says that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil and the reason Paul hits this first and all of these things that he mentions five things here immorality impurity passion evil desire and greed all but greed have to do with the sexuality of human beings that everyone have to do with the sexuality of human beings the first one is simply sex outside of marriage I’m not married it’s not it’s not adultery it’s sex outside of marriage the second one impurity is simply it could be impure thoughts it could be allowing impure words out of my mouth impure actions with my life and the impurity runs the Gambit it’s not just sexual impurity it’s verbal impurity it’s what I read what I write what I speak how I live that’s something that I’m supposed to find myself dead to passion passion is the next word that he uses this is allowing my human urges to take control of my life and to live based instead of based on common sense and rational thinking I allow my urges to control me he’s going to address those urges later on because they’re not always just sexual urges they’re also urges toward anger and Malice and envy and jealousy and rage and he’s going to address those things later on but as your pastor I want to speak to you about these sexual issues because it’s vital that you understand you cannot grow in Grace and knowledge of Christ and have your life life wrapped around sexuality because it is so powerful it will control every thing in your life and that’s not just true for those of you who are not married it’s true for those of us who are as well sexuality can become just as addictive as heroin it can bring just as much pleasure as crack it can make us feel just as awesome as cocaine it can take away the pain for a few minutes just like alcohol does the reason fornication is such an awful thing in the eyes of God and you need to understand this and the words that we use for sex that we consider vulgar words why those words are so appalling in the ears of God it’s very simply this in the Old Testament in the Old Testament it’s says that God wants us to know him and the Hebrew word for know is yadada and we get an idea of what that means to know God to yah God when we realize that in the first few chapters of Genesis it says that Adam knew Eve yada now I understand now I understand the intimacy now I understand the intimacy that God Longs for with me what did the spirit do with Mary it says the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and she conceived and she bore a son and he told Joseph you’ll call his name Emmanuel God is with us the bottom line is that God wants our relationship with him to be so intimate that he can overshadow us and conceive within us a new life a new way A New Hope I know how hard it was when I was many of your ages for me to make the decision to maintain any level of sexual Purity I know how hard it was for me and in my generation pornography was not available I could click to it right now without even trying without even trying I can do a Google search of just something and somehow I can pull up pornography and the pornography that I pull up is not even close to the pornography that I saw when I I was a kid and everybody has to come to realization the fact that we were made sexual beings God created us to be sexual beings bottom line and there’s nothing wrong with your sexuality or mine you understand that there’s nothing wrong with that God made me so that when I saw my wife for the first time I said yeah buddy that’s what I’m talking talking about right there when Tom saw Connie for the first time he said yeah belly that that that’s the one right there yeah when Aaron saw Mary for the first time M Aaron said yeahhuh and Mary said get me out of here your sexuality is nothing to be ashamed of you understand that it is what you are going to do with that sexuality that will either use your sexuality to bring you closer to God to bring your partner closer to God your husband or your wife closer to God or you’ll use it and it’ll take you further away from him the same thing is true with the second word up there impurity the way you use your mind will stick in your mind you men that are young now and you’re looking looking at pornography now when you get to be my age or Tom’s age those pictures will still be in your mind you want to know why because they still in ours they’re still in ours and what I try to do when I see that something that I saw in a magazine or somewhere when I was a young man I try to picture that person my age now and I realize okay well right all right then good yeah and I I pray that God has led that young lady that’s now an older woman I pray that God has led that young lady to accept Christ as his personal Lord and savior because what’s important is not my pleasure understand that what’s most important is not your pleasure and it’s not the pleasure of your partner what’s most important is that the way you relate to them draws them closer to God or unfortunately in the case of many of us it pushes them further away from God impurity in the way I think impurity in the way I speak impurity in the way I write impurity in the way that I live my life there’s just some things that I need to get away from and those are the things to which I’m dead and if I choose to live there it’s like I’m choosing to live with a stinking rotting corpse no no I’m not called to live there I’m called to live elsewhere and I’ve had the freedom for the first time of my life according to the Apostle Paul I have the freedom now to say no I don’t need that I don’t have to have that you see once Christ is has saved me I have a relationship with God in which which he longs to be so intimate and his intercourse or interchange with me to be so intimate that within me he births all kinds of new things and New Life comes from that and I’m able to share those things with others and be a part of his birthing those things into the lives of other people and drawing them to closer intimacy but if I’m spending all my time looking at you to lust upon you I can’t do that I can’t do that these are challenging days for young people they were tough for us these are challenging days for young single people it’s just terribly challenging we live in a culture that’s hypersexualized in one sense the world is telling you you must Express Yourself sexually you must experience before marriage and the Bible is telling you what you’re going to experience if you wait what you’re going to experience after marriage it’s going to be so much better wait wait wait because the intimacy and Oneness men the intimacy and Oneness that’s available with a woman spiritually oh it far surpasses intimacy with a woman sexually I know that many of you here would say we’re you’re in love and I agree with you I remember being in love and it was wonderful and it was great and all those feelings are there but 40 years later 30 years later 20 years later or in the case of my parents 52 years later when my mother passed away 52 years later love looks radically different not because you’re not capable of doing the things you used to do when you were younger that too by the way but but it’s not based so much on physical as much as it is spiritual and emotional and just a deep intimate knowledge that far surpasses anything I would say that in all the marital the Pastoral marital counseling that I’ve done in 37 38 years of ministry I can say without questioned that over 90% of the couples that came to me with serious serious marital problems every one of them all almost every one of them engaged in premarital sex either with their partner that they were married to or with others there is an intimacy and a bond and a spirit that takes place that I don’t want to take I don’t want to take place with anybody but my wife period evil desires desires that in Compass a whole realm of sexual things from fornication all the way to homosexuality and the last one he puts in there with it which is greed isn’t it amazing that here Paul addresses the two things that Rocky’s constantly addressing right greed money and immorality sex I know that there are many of you that are shaking your head head inside you’re not doing it on the outside and I know you’re looking at me but this guy this old guy just don’t get it well I may be old but I ain’t dead and I know what it’s like to be young and I know what I’m talking about you hang on to what you’ve got and you stop right now and you start living like the Apostle Paul challenges us to live as Believers I’m dead to all that stuff and 20 years down the line you look at your relationship you have with the woman you’re married to or the man that you’re married to versus somebody that said no that preacher nuts then you look at their look at your life or look at their lives then and it’s going to you’re going to have to wait for 15 20 years to see it notice that Paul says in verse 6 for it is because of these things the wrath of God will come upon the sons of Disobedience and then in verse 7 he says and in them you also once walked when you were living in them notice he puts it in the past tense you used to do this when you were living in them you used to do this when you were living in them but verse five is really excuse me verse six is really telling for it is because of these things what things immorality impurity passion evil desire and greed and idolatry is because of these things that the wrath of God will come on the sons of disobedience you know when we think about wrath we think about an angry Outburst that comes flying out through emotion matter of fact Rex and I were talking about that just before church Rex was talking about hey I I think I’m getting better because I’ve been doing a part of my job that I really hate and I’ve done I’ve been doing it without getting angry too that’s growth man that’s growth that’s awesome that that deserves a round of applause and by the way if God’s Wrath were something that happened out of an emotional Outburst with everything that’s been going on in our culture for the last 50 years do you think do you not think that he would have lost his temper and we would have all been struck dead a long time ago God God’s Wrath is not a Wrath of matter of fact it’s a totally different word the Greek word used here for wrath is a totally different word than the word he uses down later on when he says for us to stay away from wrath that is an angry Outburst that is an emotional bust forth to hurt somebody else to retaliate here God’s not retaliating God’s operating based on his Justice it’s not something that he chooses or wants to do but it is something that he will do you need to understand something there are people who will go to hell if God sacrificed his son for everyone’s sins then those who snub their nose to Christ will not be thrown into hell because God is full of Vengeance and rage and an emotional Outburst against them he said I am the way the truth and the life no man comes to the father but by me it’s pretty clear there are things that will and there are people who will receive the wrath of almighty God and it is naive to say otherwise we don’t focus on God’s Wrath much at this church because there’s so much to say about his love but because of his love there has to be an opposite because love with God and with in our lives if we’re living it correctly love is not just an emotion it’s not just a warm feeling it is a choice to where I say I’m going to love you and I’m going to do the best for you even if you hate me for it I’m going to do the best for you this message I have sweated over it for two weeks and just a minute ago the song the praise band singer that we all sang together it just it was like God was saying I got this just share what you have to say because I I know that some of you are just looking at me like what he growing a third eye on his forehead that ain’t going to happen well I’m sorry that you feel that way because I’m not growing a third eye on my forehead and that’s what the word of God says and you can either do it and grow or you can not do it and not grow it’s just that simple if you want to choose to live as a child of God in the things that you left behind and thereby incur the wrath of God okay okay I do not believe that God’s punishment of his people is some chastising spiritual spanking I think in my experience what God has done is just simply he keeps his hand on us all the time watching and directing things all things work together for good to those who love God to those who are called according to his purpose right that sometimes when we continue to to live in sin and continue to live in sin and continue to live in sin sometimes God just says okay I’ll pull my hand back just let the natural consequences play out and then all of a sudden boom and harshness hits and that’s when I run to God and that’s when God takes my very sin and twists it around and turns it and uses it to draw me back to himself this is life as a Believer Christ is all and in all now notice in verse eight but now you also put them aside put them all aside anger and wrath a different word for wrath this is the emotional Outburst of anger bitterness malice slander insulting gossip saying something something bad about somebody all the time abusive speech where I’m trying to verbally abuse another person humiliate and sometimes abusive speech can be no speech at all where I just roll my eyes and turn and walk away in indifference because the opposite of anger is really the opposite of love is not really hate it’s indifference the worst thing I can do to you is to ignore you turn and walk away and act like you don’t matter get all these things out of your mouth and number verse nine and do not lie to one another since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices and verse 10 have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the one who created him there it is the true knowledge in Adam new EVE God wants us to know him there that true in intimacy that recreates me in the image of one who created me a renewal in verse 11 where there is no distinction between Greek and Jew circumcised and uncircum Barbarian schian slav or free man there’s Christ is all and in all we don’t recognize skin tone here at renewal amen we don’t recognize National ity here at renewal amen we just don’t we don’t do that we just don’t do that because Christ is in is all and in all the way he lived is most important and making sure that he is in everybody and having an opportunity to share his love with everyone is the most important thing in those first few verses there from verse 5 through verse 11 the Apostle Paul uses five verbs he says consider yourself dead put them all aside do not lie lay aside the old self put on the new self five actually six if you’re counting one other verse one other verb there too he he he he’s there’s one other verb there that I forgot to there’s six of them and then from verse 12 on down he hammers home the point with several more verbs notice in verse 12 so if since Christ is all and in all we don’t make distinctions between people so as those who have been chosen by God holy and beloved put on a heart of compassion kindness humility gentleness and patience there’s five just like there was five and five before now there’s five again compassion it’s akin to the Hebrew word said it means I’m going to be loyal to you no matter what I’m going to be loyal to you no matter what I’m going to be committed to you regardless of whether you’re committed to me or whether you’re committed to us I’m still going to be committed to you it is a covenantal term it is a contractual term I’m going to be faithful to the Covenant I’m going to be faithful kindness simply kindness you realize that I cannot be kind and lust after you at the same time humility I’m more better than anyone else it’s not thinking less of your self it’s thinking of yourself less gentleness something that pastors are called to so often and do such a poor job of living and patience and then he goes on to say just bearing with one another forgiving one another and as the Lord Jesus forgave you so you should forgive others and beyond all these things or above all these things put on love which is the perfect Bond of unity Let the Peace of Christ rule in your hearts and then verse 16 let the word of Christ dwell richly within you I want to stop and I want to share something with you how am I going to live how how am I going to live how am I going to respond to life in love and truth based on all of those things and you can focus your attention this week and I would challenge you to focus your attention this week on those verses particularly um well those verses verses 5-1 17 read this over and over and over and over and over again in a time with God that is preceded that I begin my time with God by asking his Spirit to do what his spirit said he would do to what Jesus said his Spirit would do and that is guide me into all truth and ask yourself or ask the father am I compassionate am I kind am I humble am I gentle am I patient do I bear up with people and do I forgive them is love most important do you rule in my life Lord Christ and does your word dwell within me am I thankful when you do you’re going to find something different and I pray that these are the I read this in an article it was on churchleaders.com the guy that wrote it his name is Jonathan mcke and I’ve changed it up a little bit but the ideas came from him how am I going to respond in love and truth and I hope this is what you’ve seen in me I hope this is what you’ve seen in others in in this body of Believers how am I going to respond in love and truth when people are angry with me how am I going to respond in love and truth when people people reveal such wrath how am I going to respond to Love and Truth when I see my brothers and sisters shaming another person gossiping about another person or greedy and focus more upon money than they are upon people and how am I going to respond to people when I know that they’re engaged in sexual immorality and impure thinking and impure living impure speaking how many going to live with them listen listen to based if I live with them based on the latter part of these verses with compassion and kindness and patience and understanding and gentleness what Jonathan writes here is going to be very significant number one my mindset is vital Paul Begins the book of Colossians by saying set your mind on things above if I have my mindset on things above as Colossians chapter 3 begins with then my mindset is an eternal mindset and no longer do I come to people who are living other than what the word of God teaches with criticism and condescension pride and arrogance but I come to them with humility and kindness and gentleness I begin my day if when my mindset when I understand that an eternal mindset is vital then I come to the day with a prayer that Jonathan offered and that prayer is God I don’t know who I’m going to encounter today but help me to love them as you would love them don’t even let me respond instead you respond through me and if I want to think of examples of that think of the Gospel of John chapter 4 with the woman at the well in Samaria the woman who had had five husbands and was presently living outside of marriage with a man and how Jesus dealt with her with such love and compassion and patience and understanding and consideration and gentleness but at the same time spoke the truth to her not only is my mindset vital but empathy is absolutely vital I have to put myself in another person’s shoes why are they making that choice why do they have to be so outlandish why do they continually to choose to reject intimacy with Christ and choose intimacy with Humanity what’s going on and I start noticing before long I begin to see how I’m doing the same thing you’ve heard the phrase before Love The Sinner and hate the sin when you really understand that statement you won’t make it anymore what you the statement you’ll make is I love The Sinner and I hate that sin in me and that’s a quote from Thomas Martin empathy is absolutely vital mertin stood on the street corner in 1950 something in Indianapolis Indiana and God struck him as he looked around the crowded Street his people were rushing around like ants going to work and I’ve been in I’ve been in city center before I’ve seen the fountain right in City Center at Indianapolis Indiana and I’ve seen that corner where he stood I didn’t know it at the time but I’ve been on that corner where he stood and mine was in the 70s and he looked around and he realized he said I love all of these people and I don’t even know them I have a connection with every one of them I can care for every every one of them even if they don’t care for me why because he knew who he was in Christ remember I said last week I have no enemies I have no human enemies I have no human enemies none whatsoever it’s easy for me to want to lash out at another person but instead I can be gentle toward them and feel pity or empathy for them because as they have been fooled by the adversary being held captive to do his will guess what oh Marco’s been held captive too and done his will too so I address everything with humility and patience and kindness and don’t ask Leanne about that because sometimes I didn’t when she was a little girl mindset an eternal mindset is vital empathy is absolutely vital and godly acceptance hear me hear me Godly acceptance is vital you know I you I’ve done this for years and I’ve got to quit doing it you know why this is something that President Trump does all the time and every time he does it it irks me so forgive me if I do that somebody pointed out to me I used to take my glasses off all the time too and somebody somebody somebody by the name of Charlie got me cured of that Godly acceptance is vital notice I didn’t say affirmation I didn’t say affirmation if you’re living a life outside of marriage if you’re living a sexual life outside of marriage I will not affirm that with you but I will accept you because God didn’t affirm my life but he accepted me he doesn’t affirm sin but he accepts people can we live that way because that’s exactly how we’re called to live affirmation today has grown to convey these statements that Jonathan mcke says he says that that affirmation has grown to convey I accept and encourage and support your decision and everything that you choose to do is right no and that’s not what I’m suggesting what I’m suggesting is that you accept and encourage absolute love sounds like you’re going through a rough time one thing I want you to understand you may be choosing to live in some of the ways that I’ve challenged you not to do today okay I want you to understand something before you leave here today God loves you and so do I do you hear me God loves you and so do I God loves us as we are not as we should be because there ain’t none of us what we should be but he loves us with a goal so that we will grow beyond what we are to become what he has created us to become in Christ let’s pray thank you 5 in Jesus name amen
5 we&;ve talked about
5 breakthrough for the last several weeks
5 and what we&;ve begun to find out after a
5 while is that this
5 breakthrough that we have is a series of
5 little tiny breakthroughs that don&;t
5 seem like breakthroughs at the time yet
5 when we look back over months and years
5 of our life we can look back and see how
5 God has made significant and vast
5 changes not only in the way we think and
5 the way we feel but in the way we
5 live the choices we make the words we
5 speak the actions that we have with our
5 lives it&;s utterly amazing to
5 see and it happens
5 slowly slowly slowly and most of us
5 believe that the Breakthrough is some
5 kind of massive Epiphany where
5 everything changes in a moment&;s notice
5 and the reality is we&;re finding that
5 that&;s just not
5 true as Paul writes the passage of
5 scripture that we&;re going to be
5 teaching this morning he&;s speaking as a
5 pastor to his congregation as a father
5 to his
5 children there is a man who I respect
5 tremendously his name is Brennan Manning
5 and he&;s with the Lord now he passed
5 away in
5 2012 13 somewhere like that
5 Brennan was um
5 marine and a Catholic
5 priest and former Catholic priest he
5 left the priesthood married was an
5 alcoholic divorced and remained an
5 alcoholic and struggled with alcoholism
5 until he finally died of wet brain
5 because he drank so much for so many
5 decades of his
5 life Brennan had a
5 saying and that saying is you hear me
5 say this a lot and that saying is
5 this loves God loves us as we are not as
5 we should be because none of us are what
5 we should
5 be God loves us as we are not as we
5 should be because none of us are what we
5 should be
5 and Brenan is absolutely correct
5 spoton because if God didn&;t love us as
5 we
5 were in Romans 5 where Paul says that he
5 demonstrates his love for us in this in
5 that while we were yet sinners Christ
5 died for us he didn&;t come to Jeremiah
5 and say I tell you about Jeremiah you
5 clean up your act quit this this this
5 this and this and start this this this
5 this and this and I&;ll die for you no he
5 said I&;m going to show you I&;m going to
5 show Jeremiah and everyone what my love
5 really is I&;m going to love you as you
5 are and I&;m going to die for you but I
5 think Brennan didn&;t go far
5 enough you see I do believe that every
5 Godly any father good father doesn&;t
5 want his children to stay the
5 same every good father wants his
5 children to
5 grow I tell Terry on a regular basis I
5 miss the the girls being the
5 girls um let&;s see tomorrow our oldest
5 turns
5 40
5 ouch not just for her but for us she&;s
5 going into middle age well we&;ve got a
5 daughter in middle
5 age and I would love to be back not so
5 that I could be younger but so the girls
5 could be the girls again and see them
5 running through the house to see them
5 doing the things that they did when they
5 were little but the bottom line is I
5 really don&;t want that it would be nice
5 to have for a short while but number one
5 I don&;t have the energy now I can&;t keep
5 up with those kids all I have to do is
5 have all of our grandkids over at the
5 house for about 15 minutes and I realize
5 I can&;t do this
5 anymore Brennan said God loves us as we
5 are not as we should be because there
5 ain&;t none of us what we should be and
5 that&;s right we need to take it a step
5 farther God loves us as we are not as we
5 should be so that we can become all that
5 we were meant to be and created to be in
5 Christ because there must be
5 growth there must be growth in stature
5 there must be growth emotionally away
5 from either victimhood or
5 narcissism because we can&;t stay
5 eternally victims when we have a god
5 like we&;ve got and we sure as heck can&;t
5 stay eternally narcissistic when we have
5 a god like we
5 have but our world tells us stay the
5 victim keep on focusing on yourself stay
5 the victim keep on focusing on
5 yourself I want you to read with on the
5 screen with me through Colossians chap 3
5 veres 1-1
5 17
5 therefore if you have been raised up
5 with Christ keep seeking the things that
5 are above where Christ is seated at the
5 right hand of God set your mind on
5 things above not on things that are on
5 the earth for you have died and your
5 life is hidden with God in Christ when
5 Christ who is our life is revealed then
5 you also will be revealed with him in
5 glory therefore consider the members of
5 your Earthly
5 body as dead to immorality impurity
5 passion evil desire and greed which
5 amounts to
5 idolatry for it is because of these
5 things the wrath of God will come upon
5 the sons of
5 Disobedience and in them you also once
5 walked when you were living in them but
5 now you also put them aside anger wrath
5 malice slander and abusive speech from
5 your mouth do not lie to one another
5 since you laid aside the old self with
5 its evil practices and have put on the
5 new self which is being renewed to a
5 true knowledge according to the image of
5 the one who created
5 him a renewal in which there is no
5 distinction between Greek and Jew
5 circumcised or uncircumcised Barbarian
5 schian slave or free man but Christ is
5 all and in all so
5 as those who have been chosen of God
5 holy and beloved put on a heart of
5 compassion kindness humility gentleness
5 and patience bearing with one another
5 and forgiving each other Whoever has a
5 complaint against anyone just as the
5 Lord forgave you so you also should
5 forgive beyond all things put on love
5 which is the perfect Bond of
5 unity Let the Peace of Christ rule in
5 your hearts to which indeed you were
5 called in one body and be
5 thankful let the word of Christ richly
5 dwell within you with all wisdom
5 teaching and admonishing one another
5 with Psalms and hymns and spiritual
5 songs singing with thankfulness in your
5 hearts to God whatever you do in word or
5 deed do all in the name of the Lord
5 Jesus giving thanks through him to God
5 the father right smack in the center of
5 this section in verse 11 is a statement
5 at the end of verse 11 and it says in
5 that statement but Christ is all and in
5 all and that is the Hub around which
5 verses 5 through 17 rotate it is the Hub
5 it is another one of those structures
5 that I told you about several weeks ago
5 called a chastic structure and I&;m not
5 going to go into what that means anymore
5 but I&;m going to just get straight into
5 what this is all about in verses 1 to 4
5 Paul makes it clear clear to us he tells
5 us if you have been raised up with
5 Christ and seated at the right hand of
5 God then set your mind set keep seeking
5 and set your mind if you have died and
5 your life is hidden with Christ in God
5 then your life is going to be different
5 if Christ is your life then things are
5 going to be different and then right
5 smack into verse 11 he hits that idea
5 again Christ is all and in all
5 but in verse five he starts teaching
5 some things that are very important he
5 says first of all
5 therefore therefore is there for a
5 reason and it reminds us of what he&;s
5 just said if you have died and in the
5 next verse he says in verse 5 he says
5 consider the members of your Earthly
5 body as dead now what are my
5 members this is a member this is a
5 member this is a member
5 this is a member these here are members
5 my brain is a member my feet are members
5 my legs are
5 members consider my
5 members
5 dead if you have
5 died in verse three for you have died
5 and your life is hidden with Christ and
5 God there are certain things as a
5 believer to which I have died and I am
5 no longer alive to those things and when
5 I continue digging into those old things
5 from my
5 past I don&;t grow I
5 struggle and what I end up doing is I
5 end up becoming an idolator as he says
5 later on and we&;ll take a look at that I
5 set up Idols in my life that take the
5 place of God
5 and the first one he hits that I&;m
5 supposed to be dead to is something that
5 speaks powerfully to our culture
5 today the first one that he
5 speaks in verse five is that we are our
5 bodies Our members are to be dead to
5 immorality
5 immorality is sex outside of marriage
5 it&;s called fornication
5 this is an act that as a believer in
5 Christ one who has been who has died to
5 my old self and has been resurrected to
5 newness of Life In Christ this is
5 something that if I run back to it I set
5 it up as an idol in my life and it takes
5 me away from growing in Grace and
5 knowledge of my Lord Jesus Christ it
5 does not draw me to
5 him those of you who have been at Life
5 House have regularly heard
5 heard Rocky or Helen talk about two
5 things that will become God&;s in your
5 life if you&;re not careful after you
5 leave the initial days of sobriety one
5 is money and the other is
5 sex they will rule your life Jesus said
5 or the Bible says that the love of money
5 is the root of all kinds of evil
5 and the reason Paul hits this first and
5 all of these things that he mentions
5 five things here immorality impurity
5 passion evil desire and greed all but
5 greed have to do with the
5 sexuality of human beings that everyone
5 have to do with the sexuality of human
5 beings the first one is simply sex
5 outside of marriage I&;m not married it&;s
5 not it&;s not adultery it&;s sex outside
5 of marriage
5 the second one impurity is simply it
5 could be impure thoughts it could be
5 allowing impure words out of my
5 mouth impure actions with my
5 life and the impurity runs the
5 Gambit it&;s not just sexual impurity
5 it&;s verbal impurity it&;s what I read
5 what I write what I speak how I live
5 that&;s something that I&;m supposed to
5 find myself dead
5 to
5 passion passion is the next word that he
5 uses this is
5 allowing my human urges to take control
5 of my
5 life and to live based instead of based
5 on common sense and rational thinking I
5 allow my urges to control me he&;s going
5 to address those urges later on because
5 they&;re not always just sexual urges
5 they&;re also urges toward anger and
5 Malice and envy and jealousy and rage
5 and he&;s going to address those things
5 later
5 on but as your pastor I want to speak to
5 you about these sexual
5 issues because it&;s vital that you
5 understand you cannot grow in Grace and
5 knowledge of Christ and have your life
5 life wrapped around
5 sexuality because it is so powerful it
5 will control every thing in your
5 life and that&;s not just true for those
5 of you who are not married it&;s true for
5 those of us who are as well sexuality
5 can become just as addictive as
5 heroin it can bring just as much
5 pleasure as
5 crack it can make us feel just as
5 awesome as
5 cocaine it can take away the pain for a
5 few
5 minutes just like alcohol
5 does the reason fornication is such an
5 awful thing in the eyes of God and you
5 need to understand this and the words
5 that we use for sex that we consider
5 vulgar words why those words are so
5 appalling in the ears of God
5 it&;s very simply
5 this in the Old
5 Testament in the Old Testament it&;s says
5 that God wants us to know him and the
5 Hebrew word for know is
5 yadada and we get an idea of what that
5 means to know God to yah God when we
5 realize that in the first few chapters
5 of Genesis it says that Adam knew Eve
5 yada now I
5 understand now I understand the
5 intimacy now I
5 understand the intimacy that God Longs
5 for with
5 me what did
5 the spirit do with Mary it says the Holy
5 Spirit overshadowed
5 her and she
5 conceived and she bore a
5 son and he told Joseph you&;ll call his
5 name Emmanuel God is with
5 us the bottom line is that God wants our
5 relationship with him to be so intimate
5 that he can overshadow us and conceive
5 within
5 us a new
5 life a new
5 way A New
5 Hope I know how hard it was when I was
5 many of your
5 ages for me to make the decision to
5 maintain any level of sexual
5 Purity I know how hard it was for
5 me and in my generation pornography was
5 not available I could click to it right
5 now without even
5 trying without even
5 trying I can do a Google search of just
5 something and somehow I can pull up
5 pornography and the pornography that I
5 pull up is not even close to the
5 pornography that I saw when I I was a
5 kid and everybody has to come to
5 realization the fact that we were made
5 sexual beings God created us to be
5 sexual beings bottom line and there&;s
5 nothing wrong with your sexuality or
5 mine you understand that there&;s nothing
5 wrong with
5 that God made me so that when I saw my
5 wife for the first time I said yeah
5 buddy that&;s what I&;m talking talking
5 about right
5 there when Tom saw Connie for the first
5 time he said yeah belly that that that&;s
5 the one right there yeah when Aaron saw
5 Mary for the first time M Aaron said
5 yeahhuh and Mary said get me out of
5 here your sexuality is nothing to be
5 ashamed of you understand that
5 it is what you are going to do with that
5 sexuality that will either use your
5 sexuality to bring you closer to God to
5 bring your partner closer to God your
5 husband or your wife closer to God or
5 you&;ll use it and it&;ll take you further
5 away from
5 him the same thing is true with the
5 second word up there impurity the way
5 you use your
5 mind will stick in your
5 mind you men that are young now and
5 you&;re looking looking at pornography
5 now when you get to be my age or Tom&;s
5 age those pictures will still be in your
5 mind you want to know why because they
5 still in
5 ours they&;re still in
5 ours and what I try to do when I see
5 that something that I saw in a magazine
5 or somewhere when I was a young man I
5 try to picture that person my age now
5 and I realize okay well right all right
5 then good
5 yeah and I I pray that God has led that
5 young
5 lady that&;s now an older woman I pray
5 that God has led that young lady to
5 accept Christ as his personal Lord and
5 savior because what&;s important is not
5 my
5 pleasure understand that what&;s most
5 important is not your pleasure and it&;s
5 not the pleasure of your partner what&;s
5 most important is that the way you
5 relate to them draws them closer to God
5 or unfortunately in the case of many of
5 us it pushes them further away from
5 God impurity in the way I think impurity
5 in the way I speak impurity in the way I
5 write impurity in the way that I live my
5 life there&;s just some things that I
5 need to get away from and those are the
5 things to which I&;m dead and if I choose
5 to live there it&;s like I&;m choosing to
5 live with a stinking rotting corpse
5 no no I&;m not called to live there I&;m
5 called to live elsewhere and I&;ve had
5 the freedom for the first time of my
5 life according to the Apostle Paul I
5 have the freedom now to say no I don&;t
5 need that I don&;t have to have
5 that you
5 see once Christ is has saved me I have a
5 relationship with God in which which he
5 longs to be so intimate and his
5 intercourse or interchange with me to be
5 so intimate that within me he births all
5 kinds of new
5 things and New Life comes from that and
5 I&;m able to share those things with
5 others and be a part of his birthing
5 those things into the lives of other
5 people and drawing them to closer
5 intimacy but if I&;m spending all my time
5 looking at you to lust upon you
5 I can&;t do
5 that I can&;t do
5 that these are challenging days for
5 young people they were tough for us
5 these are challenging days for young
5 single people it&;s just terribly
5 challenging we live in a culture that&;s
5 hypersexualized in one sense the world
5 is telling you you must Express Yourself
5 sexually you must experience before
5 marriage and the Bible is telling you
5 what you&;re going to experience if you
5 wait what you&;re going to experience
5 after marriage it&;s going to be so much
5 better
5 wait
5 wait
5 wait because the
5 intimacy and
5 Oneness
5 men the intimacy and Oneness that&;s
5 available with a
5 woman
5 spiritually oh it far
5 surpasses
5 intimacy with a woman
5 sexually I know that many of you here
5 would say we&;re you&;re in love and I
5 agree with you I remember being in love
5 and it was wonderful and it was great
5 and all those feelings are there but 40
5 years later
5 30 years later 20 years
5 later or in the case of my parents 52
5 years later when my mother passed away
5 52 years later love looks radically
5 different not because you&;re not capable
5 of doing the things you used to do when
5 you were younger that too by the way but
5 but it&;s not based so much on physical
5 as much as it is
5 spiritual and emotional and just a deep
5 intimate knowledge
5 that far surpasses
5 anything I would
5 say that in all the marital the Pastoral
5 marital counseling that I&;ve done in 37
5 38 years of ministry I can say without
5 questioned that over 90% of the couples
5 that came to me with
5 serious
5 serious marital problems every one of
5 them all almost every one of them
5 engaged in premarital sex either with
5 their partner that they were married to
5 or with
5 others there is an intimacy and a bond
5 and a
5 spirit that takes place that I don&;t
5 want to take I don&;t want to take place
5 with anybody but my wife
5 period evil desires desires that in
5 Compass a whole realm of sexual things
5 from fornication all the way to
5 homosexuality and the last one he puts
5 in there with it which is greed isn&;t it
5 amazing that here Paul addresses the two
5 things that Rocky&;s constantly
5 addressing right greed
5 money and
5 immorality
5 sex I know that there are many of you
5 that are shaking your head head inside
5 you&;re not doing it on the outside and I
5 know you&;re looking at me but this guy
5 this old guy just don&;t get
5 it well I may be old but I ain&;t dead
5 and I know what it&;s like to be young
5 and I know what I&;m talking about you
5 hang on to what you&;ve got and you stop
5 right now and you start living like the
5 Apostle Paul challenges us to live as
5 Believers I&;m dead to all that stuff
5 and 20 years down the line you look at
5 your relationship you have with the
5 woman you&;re married to or the man that
5 you&;re married to versus somebody that
5 said no that preacher nuts then you look
5 at their look at your life or look at
5 their lives
5 then and it&;s going to you&;re going to
5 have to wait for 15 20 years to see
5 it notice that Paul says in verse
5 6 for it is because of these things the
5 wrath of God will come upon the sons of
5 Disobedience and then in verse 7 he says
5 and in them you also once walked when
5 you were living in them notice he puts
5 it in the past tense you used to do this
5 when you were living in
5 them you used to do this when you were
5 living in them but verse five is really
5 excuse me verse six is really telling
5 for it is because of these things what
5 things immorality impurity passion evil
5 desire and greed and
5 idolatry is because of these things that
5 the wrath of God will come on the sons
5 of disobedience you know when we think
5 about wrath we think about an angry
5 Outburst that comes flying out through
5 emotion matter of fact Rex and I were
5 talking about that just before church
5 Rex was talking about hey I I think I&;m
5 getting better because I&;ve been doing a
5 part of my job that I really hate and
5 I&;ve done I&;ve been doing it without
5 getting angry
5 too that&;s growth man that&;s growth
5 that&;s awesome that that deserves a
5 round of applause
5 and by the way if God&;s Wrath were
5 something that happened out of an
5 emotional
5 Outburst with everything that&;s been
5 going on in our culture for the last 50
5 years do you think do you not think that
5 he would have lost his temper and we
5 would have all been struck dead a long
5 time
5 ago God God&;s Wrath is not a Wrath of
5 matter of fact it&;s a totally different
5 word the Greek word used here for wrath
5 is a totally different word than the
5 word he uses down later on when he says
5 for us to stay away from
5 wrath that is an angry Outburst that is
5 an emotional bust forth to hurt somebody
5 else to retaliate here God&;s not
5 retaliating God&;s operating based on his
5 Justice it&;s not something that he
5 chooses or wants to do but it is
5 something that he will
5 do you need to understand something
5 there are people who will go to
5 hell if God sacrificed his
5 son for everyone&;s
5 sins then those who snub their nose to
5 Christ will not be thrown into hell
5 because God is full of Vengeance and
5 rage and an emotional Outburst against
5 them he said I am the way the truth and
5 the life no man comes to the father but
5 by me
5 it&;s pretty
5 clear there are things that will and
5 there are people who will receive the
5 wrath of almighty
5 God and it is naive to say otherwise we
5 don&;t focus on God&;s Wrath much at this
5 church because there&;s so much to say
5 about his love but because of his love
5 there has to be an
5 opposite because love with God and with
5 in our lives if we&;re living it
5 correctly love is not just an
5 emotion it&;s not just a warm feeling it
5 is a choice to where I say I&;m going to
5 love
5 you and I&;m going to do the best for you
5 even if you hate me for it I&;m going to
5 do the best for
5 you this message I have sweated over it
5 for two weeks and just a minute ago the
5 song the praise band singer that we all
5 sang together it just it was like God
5 was saying I got this just share what
5 you have to say because I I know that
5 some of you are just looking at me like
5 what he growing a third eye on his
5 forehead that ain&;t going to happen well
5 I&;m sorry that you feel that way because
5 I&;m not growing a third eye on my
5 forehead and that&;s what the word of God
5 says and you can either do it and grow
5 or you can not do it and not
5 grow it&;s just that simple if you want
5 to choose to live as a child of God in
5 the things that you left behind and
5 thereby incur the wrath of God
5 okay okay I do not believe that God&;s
5 punishment of his people is some
5 chastising spiritual spanking I think in
5 my experience what God has done is just
5 simply he keeps his hand on us all the
5 time watching and directing things all
5 things work together for good to those
5 who love God to those who are called
5 according to his purpose
5 right that sometimes when we continue to
5 to live in sin and continue to live in
5 sin and continue to live in sin
5 sometimes God just says okay I&;ll pull
5 my hand back just let the natural
5 consequences play
5 out and then all of a sudden
5 boom and harshness hits and that&;s when
5 I run to God and that&;s when God takes
5 my very sin and twists it around and
5 turns it and uses it to draw me back to
5 himself
5 this is life as a
5 Believer Christ is all and in
5 all now notice in verse
5 eight but now you also put them aside
5 put them all aside anger and wrath a
5 different word for wrath this is the
5 emotional Outburst of anger
5 bitterness
5 malice slander insulting gossip saying
5 something something bad about somebody
5 all the
5 time abusive speech where I&;m trying to
5 verbally abuse another person humiliate
5 and sometimes abusive speech can be no
5 speech at all where I just roll my eyes
5 and turn and walk away in indifference
5 because the opposite of anger is really
5 the opposite of love is not really hate
5 it&;s
5 indifference the worst thing I can do to
5 you is to ignore you turn and walk
5 away and act like you don&;t matter
5 get all these things out of your mouth
5 and number verse nine and do not lie to
5 one another since you laid aside the old
5 self with its evil practices and verse
5 10 have put on the new self who is being
5 renewed to a true knowledge according to
5 the image of the one who created
5 him there it is the true
5 knowledge in Adam new EVE God wants us
5 to know
5 him there that true in
5 intimacy that recreates me in the image
5 of one who created
5 me a renewal in verse 11 where there is
5 no distinction between Greek and Jew
5 circumcised and uncircum Barbarian
5 schian slav or free man there&;s Christ
5 is all and in
5 all we don&;t recognize skin tone here at
5 renewal amen we don&;t recognize National
5 ity here at renewal
5 amen we just don&;t we don&;t do that we
5 just don&;t do that because Christ is in
5 is all and in all the way he lived is
5 most important and making sure that he
5 is in
5 everybody and having an opportunity to
5 share his love with everyone is the most
5 important thing in those first few
5 verses there from verse 5 through verse
5 11 the Apostle Paul uses five verbs he
5 says consider yourself dead put them all
5 aside do not lie lay aside the old self
5 put on the new self five actually six if
5 you&;re counting one other verse one
5 other verb there too he he he he&;s
5 there&;s one other verb there that I
5 forgot to there&;s six of them and then
5 from verse 12 on down he hammers home
5 the point
5 with several more verbs notice in verse
5 12 so if since Christ is all and in all
5 we don&;t make distinctions between
5 people so as those who have been chosen
5 by God holy and
5 beloved put on a heart of
5 compassion kindness humility gentleness
5 and patience there&;s five just like
5 there was five and five before now
5 there&;s five
5 again
5 compassion it&;s akin to the Hebrew word
5 said it means I&;m going to be loyal to
5 you no matter what I&;m going to be loyal
5 to you no matter what I&;m going to be
5 committed to you regardless of whether
5 you&;re committed to me or whether you&;re
5 committed to us I&;m still going to be
5 committed to you it is a covenantal term
5 it is a contractual term I&;m going to be
5 faithful to the
5 Covenant I&;m going to be faithful
5 kindness simply kindness you realize
5 that I cannot be kind and lust after you
5 at the same
5 time humility I&;m more better than
5 anyone else it&;s not thinking less of
5 your self it&;s thinking of yourself less
5 gentleness something that pastors are
5 called to so often and do such a poor
5 job of
5 living and
5 patience and then he goes
5 on to say just bearing with one another
5 forgiving one another and as the Lord
5 Jesus forgave you so you should forgive
5 others and beyond all these things or
5 above all these things put on love which
5 is the perfect Bond of unity Let the
5 Peace of Christ rule in your hearts and
5 then verse 16 let the word of Christ
5 dwell richly within
5 you I want to
5 stop and I want to share something with
5 you how am I going to
5 live how how am I going to live how am I
5 going to respond to life in love and
5 truth based on all of those things and
5 you can focus your attention this week
5 and I would challenge you to focus your
5 attention this week on those verses
5 particularly um well those verses verses
5 5-1 17 read this over and over and over
5 and over and over again in a time with
5 God that is preceded that I begin my
5 time with God by asking his Spirit to do
5 what his spirit said he would do to what
5 Jesus said his Spirit would do and that
5 is guide me into all
5 truth and ask yourself or ask the father
5 am I compassionate am I kind am I humble
5 am I gentle am I patient do I bear up
5 with people and do I forgive them is
5 love most important do you rule in my
5 life Lord Christ and does your word
5 dwell within
5 me am I
5 thankful when you do you&;re going to
5 find something different and I pray that
5 these are the I read this in an article
5 it was on churchleaders.com the guy that
5 wrote it his name is Jonathan mcke and
5 I&;ve changed it up a little bit but the
5 ideas came from him how am I going to
5 respond in love and truth and I hope
5 this is what you&;ve seen in me I hope
5 this is what you&;ve seen in others in in
5 this body of
5 Believers how am I going to respond in
5 love and truth when people are angry
5 with
5 me how am I going to respond in love and
5 truth when people people reveal such
5 wrath how am I going to respond to Love
5 and Truth when I see my brothers and
5 sisters shaming another
5 person gossiping about another person or
5 greedy and focus more upon money than
5 they are upon
5 people and how am I going to respond to
5 people when I know that they&;re engaged
5 in sexual immorality and impure thinking
5 and impure living impure speaking how
5 many going to live with
5 them listen listen to based if I live
5 with them based on the latter part of
5 these verses with compassion and
5 kindness and patience and understanding
5 and gentleness what Jonathan writes here
5 is going to be very significant number
5 one my mindset is vital Paul Begins the
5 book of Colossians by saying set your
5 mind on things
5 above if I have my mindset on things
5 above as Colossians chapter 3 begins
5 with
5 then my mindset is an eternal
5 mindset and no
5 longer do I come to people who are
5 living other than what the word of God
5 teaches with criticism and condescension
5 pride and arrogance but I come to them
5 with humility and kindness and
5 gentleness I begin my day if when my
5 mindset when I understand that an
5 eternal mindset is vital
5 then I come to the day with a prayer
5 that Jonathan offered and that prayer is
5 God I don&;t know who I&;m going to
5 encounter
5 today but help me to love them as you
5 would love them don&;t even let me
5 respond
5 instead you respond through
5 me and if I want to think of examples of
5 that think of the Gospel of John chapter
5 4 with the woman at the well in
5 Samaria the woman who had had five
5 husbands and was presently
5 living outside of marriage with a
5 man and how Jesus dealt with her with
5 such love and compassion and patience
5 and understanding and consideration and
5 gentleness but at the same time spoke
5 the truth to
5 her not only is my mindset vital but
5 empathy is absolutely vital I have to
5 put myself in another person&;s shoes
5 why are they making that
5 choice why do they have to be so
5 outlandish why do they continually to
5 choose to reject intimacy with Christ
5 and choose intimacy with
5 Humanity what&;s going
5 on and I start noticing before long I
5 begin to see how I&;m doing the same
5 thing you&;ve heard the phrase before
5 Love The Sinner and hate the
5 sin when you really understand that
5 statement you won&;t make it anymore what
5 you the statement you&;ll make is I love
5 The Sinner and I hate that sin in
5 me and that&;s a quote from Thomas
5 Martin empathy is absolutely vital
5 mertin stood on the street corner in
5 1950 something in Indianapolis Indiana
5 and God struck him as he looked around
5 the crowded Street his people were
5 rushing around like ants going to work
5 and I&;ve been in I&;ve been in city
5 center before I&;ve seen the fountain
5 right in City Center at Indianapolis
5 Indiana and I&;ve seen that corner where
5 he stood I didn&;t know it at the time
5 but I&;ve been on that corner where he
5 stood and mine was in the
5 70s and he looked around and he realized
5 he said I love all of these people and I
5 don&;t even know them I have a connection
5 with every one of
5 them I can care for every every one of
5 them even if they don&;t care for
5 me
5 why because he knew who he was in
5 Christ remember I said last week I have
5 no enemies I have no human
5 enemies I have no human enemies none
5 whatsoever it&;s easy for me to want to
5 lash out at another person but instead I
5 can be gentle toward
5 them and feel pity or empathy for them
5 because as they have been fooled by the
5 adversary being held captive to do his
5 will guess what oh Marco&;s been held
5 captive too and done his will
5 too so I address everything with
5 humility and patience and kindness and
5 don&;t ask Leanne about that because
5 sometimes I didn&;t when she was a little
5 girl mindset an eternal mindset is vital
5 empathy is absolutely
5 vital and godly acceptance hear me hear
5 me Godly acceptance is vital you know I
5 you I&;ve done this for years and I&;ve
5 got to quit doing it you know
5 why this is something that President
5 Trump does all the time and every time
5 he does it it irks me so forgive me if I
5 do that somebody pointed out to me I
5 used to take my glasses off all the time
5 too and somebody somebody somebody by
5 the name of Charlie got me cured of
5 that Godly acceptance is vital notice I
5 didn&;t say affirmation
5 I didn&;t say affirmation if you&;re
5 living a life outside of marriage if
5 you&;re living a sexual life outside of
5 marriage I will not affirm that with you
5 but I will accept
5 you because God didn&;t affirm my
5 life but he accepted
5 me he doesn&;t affirm sin but he accepts
5 people can we live that
5 way because that&;s exactly how we&;re
5 called to live
5 affirmation today has grown to convey
5 these statements that Jonathan mcke says
5 he says that that affirmation has grown
5 to convey I accept and encourage and
5 support your decision and everything
5 that you choose to do is right
5 no and that&;s not what I&;m suggesting
5 what I&;m suggesting is that you accept
5 and
5 encourage absolute love
5 sounds like you&;re going through a rough
5 time one thing I want you to
5 understand you may be choosing to live
5 in some of the ways that I&;ve challenged
5 you not to do
5 today
5 okay I want you to understand something
5 before you leave here today God loves
5 you and so do
5 I do you hear
5 me God loves you and so do I
5 God loves us as we are not as we should
5 be because there ain&;t none of us what
5 we should be but he loves us with a goal
5 so that we will grow beyond what we are
5 to become what he has created us to
5 become in
